  • (v0.3.2-alpha) New Section!: Modified the CSS to allow the creation of new sections! THe HERO section takes up the initial 100% of the screen. The next sections do NOT affect it yay lol
  • (v0.3.1(1)-alpha) Bug Fix: Overflow: AHHH I FOUND THE BUGGG i used a debug mode(makeshift) where i put outline to every item lol. I saw that the .acions was overflowing fixed it pf
  • (v0.3.1-alpha) UI Colors + Buttons: Added some better bg colors and button styls. Made the navbar fixed to the screen. I’m currently having a bug where the horizontal and vertical stuff i overflowing, ah will see soon :P
  • (v0.3.0-alpha) UI Revamp (#2): REVAMPED THE UI AGAINNNN, now ts is final i swear. This is so peak. i really REALLLYYY love the soft glow behind the terminal. And overall the UI feels less cluttered and more “professional”

Override.exe (v0.4-beta)

Override (Override.exe) is a simple webOS inspired by Microsoft Windows 11 (no hate pls) that incorporates a puzzle!
This is my first ship so im really, really excited!

Features:

I’ve tried adding as many features as I could, here are some:

  • Windows like lockscreen and login animation
  • 1:1 replica of the taskbar (atleast i hope so)
  • Different apps!
  • Games!
  • Puzzles/ARG stuff!

Backstory

You have applied for a Cybersecurity internship @Hackclub’s HQ.
They receive 100s of applications but there are only a handful of seats.
They have devised a plan.

What I Learnt

This project really taught me a ton of stuff and tbh i wanna work on this in the future!

Technical Skills

  • ReactJS: This was honestly my first time using ReactJS + Vite for web development,
    and I learnt so much during this journey! While there were some instances where I felt like giving up,
    I struggled through and reached a fruitful end!
  • CSS: Being fr, before this project i wasn’t good at CSS but it changed!

Problem Solving

  • Asynchronous stuff with JS
  • Managing large codebases (although this may not be so big)
  • Structuring the codebase
  • Writing README’s in detail!

Personal Note:

  • This project was really one of the fewest that I actually invested time and FINISHED with success!
    I’m sooo proud of my creation. I would like to extend my gratitude to Hackclub for providing such an awesome platform!

  • (v0.3.7-beta) Default Settings + Others: Instead of hardcoding the positions of the windows based on a fixed height and width ive now made it so that i can just change the width and height to do that. The vars are in App.js as WINDOW_DEFAULTS. Made minor changes to progresspanel css

(v0.3.5-beta) Alert, Info, Hints and Generalized componets!

  • (v0.3.5-beta) Alert Generalized Component: THe AlertHint.jsx or AlertHint is now generalized to Alert.jsx and Alert it takes 5 arguments which are: Icon, title, isOpen, setIsOpen and body. I will be modifying this further to make the buttons do stuff other thann closing the alert box. :)
  • (v0.3.4-beta) Hints & Info! ProgressPanel: Great news, I have successfully made the hints/progress panel work! it uses a js dictionary to fetch the data (from Hints.js). it now correctly shows the info of the puzzle as well as an hint, i have yet to write the proper hints and info but its functioning as of now. Changed the puzzle number ofthe html page.
  • (v0.3.3(2)-beta) Better Alert: The alert now fades in smoothly instead of abruptly as in the previous case. Changed the css so that the bg of the alert is blurred and a bit darkened for better visuals
  • (v0.3.3(1)-beta) Hint Component + Others: ong bro i forgot to commit and i was not at home yesterday and i forgot everything. ANYWAYS, after skimming through the changes: I added a var hintText which customizes the text that appears on the popup. Made changes to the css and readme. Clicking the button of Puzzle 0 now shows the hint!

  • (v0.2.2-beta) Sequence 7: Ending (70%): Okay in this commit I’ve added more animations when the final cmd sequence is called. Fixed some more bugs like the cmds still being called in the windows term and like that. Im going to complete this sequence in the next commit!

I added the exit command in the ssh which asks ppermission before exiting, default is no, as shown by the capitalized N.   • (v0.1.7.6-alpha) Puzzle 6 + Loader + Better puzzles: Okay i kinda forgot to commit so here we go all in one: firstly many playtesters were struggling after getting the path (/.../...) So i fixed it its now override.rupnil.codes/.../.... Next thing I did was making the puzzle 6 thing, so i took inspiration(i copied it ong) from the actual window terminal and made progress(not finsihed tho-). I also added a loader obj in the terminal for testing purposes, it can be accessed by the cmd: load. OH ALSO I MOVED THE SENSITIVE/PUZZLE commands to the .env so no cheating :3

  • (v0.1.6.0-alpha) Terminal + Others: Visual changes to notepad and the system tray. TERMINAL (Command Prompt). Commands work, custom commands and outputs can be set in Cmd.js. Soo I had faced into this issue where the whole screen was doing sm kind of thing, it was due to a lone div containing a useRef AND the autoFocus in the input. I LEGIT spent 30mins debugging (even asked gemini) without any progress. Finally decided to manually go through EACH LINE commenting then checkng. Finally found the buggy lines anf fixed. I hate my life-

  • (v0.1.5.9-alpha) Progress Sidebar: Soo in this commit i’ve made the pprogress sidebar BUT THATS NOT IT! soo the thing was i was facing an issue even when the container was minimized it was still covering the screen and sooo it pprevented stuff, so i fixed that with some css and usestatess :D

  • (v0.1.5.8-alpha) Notepad Functions + Progress Panel: FINNALLYY got the notepad stuff to work, like bold, italics, and underline. I removed the H1 cuz it was awful. It is what it is. Also i added the progress sidebar container.

  • (v0.1.5.5(1)-alpha) Bug Fix: Notepad selection: OKKAYYY, i fixed the bug which was “Notepad selection stops when it goes outside of the rnd window.” first discovered by Speedhawks (thank you!!). So the thing was that when dragging the desktop item was capturing the mouse events and thus selection was stopping, It fixed now!

(v0.1.4.2-alpha) Technically, Technical Update!

  • (v0.1.4.2-alpha) App Routers (JSX) + Design Change: The apps in the desktop are opened using iframes (thanks TruthEntity) but they were accessing .html files stored in public/apps/ folder. NOW with this update they are now converted into jsx objects at src/apps/ and rendered using MemoryRouter. But i encountered a problem as iframes cant work with MemoryRouter(as it is internal data). SOOO i asked Gemini (IM SOORRYYY) and i found got the solution to use url parameters. And they lived happily there after! ALSOOOOO changed the size of desktop icon and text

  • 65e9bb7: Removed the sidebar which was hogging the available space. Fixed the navbar Issue #1 and added seamless routing using react-router and react-router-dom. Also added was meta tags that now embed the name and logo of codepedia (Img 2).

Thought the banner is not the final one, Im still happy how it turned out!
Unlike yesterday tho I had a clear idea for the logo as I had been doodling the whole day at School LMAO.
