A browser extension to customize your highlight color and adding effects to spice it up
Already up on the firefox marketplace! Come check it out at: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-CA/firefox/addon/polylight/

Important for the voters:
Since I’ve seen it a couple of times already, i wanted to make this clear: Chrome is already supported in the packed .CRX file form once signed by them, the only thing left for them to do is review the extension and approve it on their marketplace

Be aware that add-ons cannot work on mozila/firefox’s own pages by default, it is a security measure that is put in place by their add-on system, also if the website you are visiting has some parts of the highlight still in the old color, that’s because the website is using some kind of alternate text render or are forcing their own color bypassing Polylight, hence why this is something i can’t do much about it, otherwise everything else works fine

This project uses AI

Just to get some insight on the newest “standards” (I call them that, but it’s just modern designing refresh) for the extensions to look good enough while still being minimal at its core

I made that extension in honor of my old userscript i did on Tampermonkey a couple of years ago, honestly i found it among my old stuff and was brought back to when i was so hyped about it, now i’m hyped again by having a custom highlight especially rainbow even if the hardest was to actually make it hold up in all text highlight situations on any color or contrast, the UI got a whole revamp too so i’m so happy of how it turned out and how you can control it on your end to personalize it more

Please reviewers, read my update README, i addressed a known issue with chrome on windows behavior with unverified CRX extensions and unpacked Vite breakage, thank you

Whoops it appears that the rainbow mode (aka the main feature of this add-on) had an oversight on the refresh frequency of the color gradient, before modification it was set to refresh at a rate of 60 fps, and that caused a massive CPU usage, which I have now fixed by making the gradient transition frame rate to be 25 (like in most movies, although i know movies are more like 24.9).
I also have fixed another oversight with the color of the highlighted text dynamic range, the old one was unsuitable so i tuned it to be most readable in every situations, demo attached down here:
Also, time to ship!!

EDIT: I didnt knew the deadline was pushed back to the 4th of april, i have time to polish it more, yay

Before edit: Too bad I didn’t properly log my working time but oh well, soooo I have finished refactoring my old crumbly extension I had made a couple of years ago to give me a coolness factor in class with my atypical highlighting colors and effects, I’m pretty sure I’m done with it, at least it’s good enough to ship imo since it was a really light extension project from the beginning and I hope you will like it just as much as I did while having it back then (even now ahah)
