I built DevMotivate — a VS Code extension that basically turns coding into a game with XP, ranks, motivation, and even roast messages.
The idea came from my own problem. I used to lose focus a lot while coding, especially during long sessions or boring tasks. So instead of forcing myself to stay disciplined, I thought why not make coding fun.
The hardest part was understanding how VS Code extensions actually work. Things like handling save events, tracking idle time, and managing XP felt confusing at first. I also ran into a lot of errors while setting everything up and packaging the extension, but I kept fixing them step by step.
What I’m most proud of is that it actually works and I’d genuinely use it myself. It’s simple, but it solves a real problem for me — staying focused while coding.
I learned how to build a real developer tool, debug properly, and think about user experience, not just writing code.
I will upload it and make it live on official VSCODE Extensions too!!
Thanks Codextensions Members, Founder to create this cool sidequest cause of this We are able to learn new things everyone who submit it is a GOAT!
