Summer of Making gave me so much more than just prizes. Over the summer, I made projects that were a mix of fun (a chess-like esolang called C), genuinely useful (Grafana dashboard for #summer-of-making-help), and challenging (learning Postgres + Prisma for a multiplayer web app). I managed to get a Flipper Zero, which I originally thought would be far out of my reach, and met some of my favourite Hack Clubbers. Thanks y'all <3>

I was absolutely terrified of shipping anything before Summer of Making (god forbid my projects are perceived) and so even though I made projects, I never published anything. Summer of Making encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone and try new mediums of making, but most importantly taught me that the internet is a friendlier place than I thought and that my work deserves to be seen.

Who is eligible?

Flavortown is for highschoolers! You need to be 13-18 years old to participate.

How much does it cost?

100% free* - all the prizes are donated to us or paid for by us! *customs might occur outside of the US

What types of projects count?

All kinds of technical projects as long as it's open-source!

How many projects can I build?

There's no limit! Cook as much as you can!

Is this legit?

Yup! This summer we ran Summer of Making, and before that we ran High Seas—both programs gave out similar prizes for building personal projects.

About Hack Club

Hack Club is a nonprofit supporting a global network of over 60,000 teenagers. We believe the best way to learn is by building, so we provide community, resources, and funding to help teens create. We've run programs like High Seas, a global coding challenge where over 1,500 teens logged over 70,000 hours of coding and we shipped out 10,000 prizes to 212 countries; Juice, a two-month game jam where 100 teens created their own video games; The Trail, a seven-day hike along the Pacific Crest Trail where 30 teens build their own technical hiking equipment.
